The international training seminar was jointly launched by the Guangdong Polytechnic of Water Resources and Electric Engineering (GPWE) in China, Arusha Technical College and the Sunmaker Oil & Gas Training Institute (Uganda) to foster home-grown high-caliber technical personnel in water resources and electric engineering for African countries. Another reason was to assist the continent's hydropower development, and to build a closer China-Africa community with a shared future.

The attendees included officials from the Department of Vocational Education and Training in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of Tanzania, Guangdong Department of Education and China Association of Hydraulic Engineering Education, and 48 international students.

Robert, a Tanzanian student of the 2022 International Students Class, said in an interview that the training session will impart knowledge on water resources and electric engineering. He is hoping to find internship opportunities in hydropower firms.

"The program is expected to educate trainees on how to boost the hydropower industry in East Africa," said Anna Sebastian, another Tanzanian student.
