Updated: 2024-07-24

Tianjin's Offshore Oil Engineering Co (COOEC), has successfully bid for the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, Commissioning (EPCIC) contract for the SHWE gas field Phase 4 development project. It is the first time a Chinese company has secured an EPCIC contract for a 1,000-meter-level international deep-water oil and gas field.

The natural gas produced by the SHWE Phase 4 project will be transported to China via pipelines, enhancing oil and gas cooperation among countries participating in the Belt and Road Initiative.

Operated by POSCO International, the SHWE project involves a maximum water depth of 1,050 meters. As the general contractor, COOEC will provide a comprehensive suite of services, including engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning.

COOEC has established itself as a leader in deep-water oil and gas engineering, with notable projects including the world's first 100,000-ton semi-submersible production and storage platform, the "Deep Sea No 1" Energy Station; Asia's deepest water jacket platform, "Haiji No 2"; and Asia's first cylindrical FPSO, "Haikui No 1”.

The company's fleet includes five 3,000-meter deep-water engineering vessels, reinforcing its position among the global leaders in deep-water engineering.

Since 2013, COOEC has undertaken extensive cooperation with 31 countries and regions along the Belt and Road, completing nearly 70 projects. Each successful venture enhances the global reputation of "Made in China", contributing to the energy sector and promoting high-quality economic and social development in the region.
