Feinengdi talks with another coach[Photo/TJinyun]
Feinengdi is an 81-year-old leader of the Macao team taking part in the 10th Chinese National Games for Persons with Disabilities. He is a leading authority on helping the disabled people of Macao.
One of his contributions was introducing Boccia to Macao.
Handicapped Boccia players usually suffer from mental and physical challenges and must spend their lives in wheelchairs. Therefore, Feinengdi, as a member of the coaching team, spends extra time training the players.
When the Olympic Games were held in Beijing eleven years ago, Feinengdi found that Boccia was not a Paralympic Games event.
"At that time, there was no such item. So I decided to introduce and organize the game by myself. I hope Boccia players can also participate in the Beijing Paralympic Games by using what I learned from Portugal."
"So you are the first one to introduce Boccia to Macao." an interpreter said to him, causing Feinengdi to smile pleasantly.
Feinengdi is not only a representative of the Macao team but also the chairman of the Macao Disabled Persons Association with which he has been involved for 40 years.
Apart from disabled persons, Feinengdi also helps cancer patients and others living in poverty. He gives them knowledge by holding meetings and lectures and telling them how to alleviate physical pain.
In his career, Feinengdi has overcome a lot of setbacks. But he thinks money is the most difficult problem.
"I've been talking with the government as much as possible hoping to get more support and funds."
At the end of the interview, he sent two cards and a medal to the journalist. Neither the cards nor the medal reflected his efforts in helping disabled persons.
