Beefing up its research ability, Tianjin's Dongli district has gathered 11,000 high-end talents, including professors of the Chang Jiang Scholars Program and academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Half of the talents come from Beijing as the district is highly integrating with the regional coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei.
With 800,000 people in 95 communities, Dongli's 477 square kilometer area connects Tianjin's central area and the Binhai new area, an advantageous location strengthened by the nearby Binhai International Airport and the adjacent Tianjin port.
The district is now home to 8,000 technology SMEs, including more than 350 with output value exceeding 100 million yuan, and 239 national high-tech enterprises.
Over a hundred research institutes from across the country have set up branches and platforms in Dongli, with over 30 at provincial or higher level. Among the settled projects are big names such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University and China Civil Aviation University.
Sticking to the philosophy of innovation-driven development, Dongli's efforts have yielded notable economic progress. In 2018, 24 of its projects were selected as national and municipal talent projects.
Dongli's industry structure sees constant improvements and accelerated growth in intelligent manufacturing, big data and other emerging industries.
The district is gearing up for high-quality development backed up by strategic emerging industries like high-end manufacturing, big data, new materials, driverless vehicles and modern service, to name a few.
The district focuses on the important roles played by its leading enterprises in facilitating the regional economy. Among them, there are 19 companies paying annual taxes of more than 100 million yuan.
As it sees improving the living conditions of the people as its development goal, Dongli prioritizes improving local living standards. By 2021, all the relocated houses with a total scale of 16 million square meters will be built, and 300,000 farmers will move into new homes. It also digitalizes urban management by integrating modern information technology.
The district highly values ecological and environmental protection. Its aim is to be half park and half city.
In anticipation of a rapidly developing economy, the district also boasts and puts forward its cultural heritage, which includes historical buildings and intangible cultural projects such as paper-cutting and martial arts.
