China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city management bureau said the eco-city will achieve full 5G network coverage by the end of this year, aiming to build a demonstrative smart city.

The eco-city signed a cooperative agreement with China Mobile，Chinese telecom giant, on July 17 to cooperate in building a 5G-based data platform, Internet of things and infrastructure.

5G is believed to be the basic premise and important foundation for realizing the concept of an 'intelligent' city.

China Mobile's Tianjin branch will enhance the construction of 5G macro and micro base stations.

The two parties will take advantage of 5G technology to facilitate more areas such as autonomous driving, drones, public transport service, GPS service, energy and medical services.

Located in Tianjin Binhai New Area, the eco-city is an intergovernmental project between China and Singapore as a demonstration zone of green development.
