Tianjin has steadily promoted the construction of an upgraded version of the demonstration zone for vocational education, on the basis of continuing to maintain the advantages as the birthplace of Chinese vocational education. The city has successfully held the 10th National Vocational College Skills Competition and the third Vocational Education Week, and established the transformation center for the achievement from vocational college skills competition contest and national vocational education teaching resource development and production center. 6 undergraduate majors of Tianjin Sino-German University of Applied Sciences have been approved by the Ministry of Education; the city has newly set up a new industry steering committee and 3 new vocational education groups for lifelong learning; publishes community educational development opinions and development plans for education for senior citizens; releases citizen lifelong learning cards in pilot areas; and now has 4 overseas “Lu Ban Workshops” for vocational colleges.
By 2020, most vocational colleges in Tianjin will achieve first-class level in China, laying a solid foundation for Tianjin Sino-German University of Applied Sciences to become a world-class university with Chinese characteristics. The city will also build 10 national vocational education groups as pilots, add two to 3 regional vocational education groups that serve lifelong learning, build 20 vocational colleges of world advanced level, make and implement 100 international professional teaching standards, train a group of technical talents with international competitiveness, and strive to establish 10 “Lu Ban Workshops” overseas.
