Nan'gang Industrial Zone is located in the south of Binhai New Area, 45 km from the Tianjin downtown area, 40 km from Tianjin Airport, 20 km from Tianjin Port. It has a planned area of 200 square kilometers, a land area of 162 square kilometers, and a sea area of 38 square kilometers. Development and construction of Nan'gang Industrial Zone is part of Tianjin's overall urban spatial development strategy, focusing on the major strategic long-term development of Binhai New Area.

Two harbor basins were planned to form a 32.1-kilometer shoreline. In the short term we'll focus on the industrial port, meeting the need for supporting the large projects within the zone. A 50,000-100,000 ton volume is needed. In the long-term we'll construct a specialized integrated port and meet the volume of 100,000-150,000 tons.

Building a world-class heavy chemical industry base is the goal of Nan'gang Industrial Zone. Overall development and construction of Nan'gang Industrial Zone is in three phases. The first phase will be on the development of the petrochemical industry and excavation of west basin; the second phase is on the development of metallurgical equipment manufacturing group and integrated industrial group while doing a good job supporting production; the third phase is the excavation of east basin, developing bulk cargo logistics group and bonded logistics group, functioning as a hub.

Overall development structure of Nan'gang Industrial Zone can be described as "one area, one belt and five parks". "One area" refers to the national recycling economy demonstration area, the industrial zone of the world-class heavy chemical industry base. "One belt" refers to the west side of the Nan'gang Industrial Zone, in which a 1 km wide green belt will be built, forming an ecological barrier between Nan'gang Industrial Zone and Dagang Oilfield Town. "Five parks" refers to the petrochemical industrial park, metallurgical equipment park, integrated industrial park, port logistics park and public works park.

Nan'gang Industrial Zone was planned to become a park of petrochemistry, equipment manufacturing, iron and steel metallurgy, port logistics, new energy, new materials and other industrial categories with high concentration. At the same time, it will establish an internal matter and energy circulation system, form a "resources - products - renewable resources" cycle of economic processes, save resources and energy, reduce energy consumption, and try to reach or approach the international advanced level in terms of overall energy consumption of key products. When the park is completed, it is expected to realize cumulative total investment of 800 billion CNY, output of 1 trillion CNY, industrial added value of 350 billion CNY, profits of 200 billion CNY, and 200,000 direct employments.

As the main carrier to heavy chemical industry projects of Binhai New Area in the future, Nan'gang Industrial Zone has started the construction of a comprehensive access control project, forming a close-door professional chemical park. Nan'gang Industrial Zone will delineate the park boundary physically for protection. Access control will be seen at entrances and exits of the park. Key enterprises will be access controlled. This is to provide a guarantee for the safe development of the Nan'gang Industrial Zone.
